The Six Week Stretch | A Father's Guide to the Summer Holidays
Free Guide · For Dads

Six weeks off school.
And you're already counting.

I've written something for the summer. Eight pages on what six weeks actually does to you, and five things that help. It's free, and you can read it tonight.

The holidays are not a break for most dads.

They're the same job with the scaffolding taken away. Term time gave your week edges. Drop off, pick up, the commute, the bit in between where nobody needed anything from you. None of it was rest exactly, but it was shape.

Take the shape away and it shows up fast. Usually somewhere around day nine.

"You're not failing at summer. You're running at capacity with the recovery taken out, and nobody has ever said that to you out loud."
  • The dread started a fortnight before term even ended.
  • Your annual leave was redeployment, not recovery. You can't say that out loud to anyone.
  • There's no Sunday any more. Nothing marks the end of anything, including you.
  • You're running the numbers at eleven at night and snapping about shoes in the hallway.
  • Six o'clock handover, and neither of you has enough left to be the one who sits down first.

Not activity ideas. The other half.

There are plenty of good summer guides for rotas, cheap days out and screen time. Use them. This one does the part none of them touch.

  • Six pressure points nobody names, including the one that's genuinely different for fathers.
  • Why your breaking point arrives in the first fortnight, not near the end.
  • Five things that actually work, small enough to do while holding a toddler.
  • How to spot your own triggers before five past five ambushes you again.

It lands in your inbox straight away.

If something here landed,
that's your answer.

You don't need to have it figured out. If something on this page sounded like the inside of your head, that's enough to start. The guide is free, and you can read it tonight.

Not therapy. This guide is practical, educational material built on clinical frameworks, not clinical or therapeutic care. If you're going through something that needs more than a guide right now, please contact your GP or call Samaritans on 116 123 (free, 24/7).
